Hello Mr Kimathi.
Amos: I hope you are fine with your daily activities, am fine too. I am receiving now days dead satellite receivers, with many problems, I can only solve small problem like burnt fuse, diode, transistors but it is difficult to repair them because I don’t have enough knowledge about it. All receivers use switch mode power supply, many of these power supplies die, and all these trouble model come from China. How can you help me how to deal with satellite receives, many peoples in my area have
satellite dishes and use them.
Have a good day.
Thanks.
Humphrey: Glad to hear from you, here in Kenya these receivers are not very
common and therefore I would not know most common problems associated with
them.
But from what you have
said if most problems is power related then this is quite simple…in fact power
problems are the easiest to solve and all switch mode power supply are almost
the same irrespective of the equipment.
Use the
troubleshooting procedure outlined in your book...Also if you can get a circuit
of one model from the internet can help you to understand the circuit better. By
the way how much are they costing there in Tanzania in us dollars?
Amos: I write to you to ask some information about smps for
digital satellite receiver model no Strong srt 4650,The cost of this receiver is
Tsh 200,000/=usd 111.when I open power supply section I found main capacitor
damaged,33uf,400V.after checking all components around it everything was ok. when
I switched on no voltage at main capacitor I discover one fuse open after
replace it the voltage reach the main capacitor but no display, when I check
the main capacitor is still holding the charge even if I switched off I realize
there is problem why the main capacitor don’t discharge and still holding the
charge for long time even if I switched off I ended here. I need your help sir;
I have not read the smps book am in process to buy it.
Have a good day
Humphrey: Read chap 5 of your book for more info on this. Again send me
the picture of this power supply board. But if the fuse was open I suspect
there is a shorted component also on the supply (primary)...Like the control ic
or transistor whichever is used in this supply.
If the capacitor is
still holding charge check if the start- up resistors are open (they are used
to discharge the main capacitor also) Power problems are the easiest to solve
Amos…do you have testing electronics components by jestine yong…I suggest you
start with this book because it has all the basics before you go to advanced
level.
Kind regards
Humphrey
Amos: How are you? The enclosed attachment is the picture of
digital satellite receiver, which I trying to repair, the voltage is reaching
the main
capacitor and no secondary output voltage and the main capacitor don’t discharge.
capacitor and no secondary output voltage and the main capacitor don’t discharge.
Have a good day
Thanks.
Thanks.
Humphrey: There are very few
components here. You can check them out quite easily but from what you have
said already, the highlighted are the most suspect.
I strongly suggest you
change the I.C highlighted directly…before you even start testing on the other
component…is it viper50? I can’t see the number. Whatever it is
please change first and test the supply again…it could be the only component now
which can cause havoc.
Regards Humphrey
Amos: I hope you are fine with your daily works. Am fine too. The
power supply and Digital Satellite Receiver Strong model no SRT 4650 is back to
normal, I checked all secondary diode and the fuse as you direct me to test
them, I test them all were ok, The problem in my area is how to get spare part,
it takes a lot of time to get the IC NO A6351 As you direct me to replace, after
replace it, everything is ok and the receiver is back to normal, thank again
for your help.
Have a good day.
Humphrey: Congratulations for the job well done Amos.
This is a direct email support between a customer from Tanzania Mr. Amos Mponda and myself back here in Kenya.
