Good Day Sir,
I have a Lenovo laptop from all reports it was working fine
for many years but suddenly it would shut its- self down after 2-3 minutes. It
is not over heating the fan and heatsink is clean and have paste.
Any suggestion as to what the problem might be caused by and
the possible solution?
Regards, "SHA"
Is the battery okay? Is Power adapter ok? Check for any
capacitor with the top slightly swollen.
Sorry for late reply
Regards Humphrey
Hello Humphrey,
The battery is no longer keeping charge but it does the same
thing without the battery. Is it possibly to be a faulty CPU?
Regards, "SHA"
Hi Sha,
You said nothing is overheating... That is why I suspected
capacitors. Do you have ESR meter? Test them especially the big ones.
Regards Humphrey
Hi Humphrey
But remember that laptop capacitors are mainly SMD unlike
desktop MB.

Hi Sha,
Power up and touch the top part with the back of your finger

Good night Sir,
Sorry, but not sure what you mean by "Power up and
touch the top part with the back of your finger", could you kindly
explain.
Regards,"SHA"
Hi Sha,
Top part of capacitors... Should not be hot.

Hi Humphrey
OK, going 2 check. But just gathered a history of the laptop,
I was told that the fan and heatsink vent was clogged for a while and as a
result the laptop was overheating and was only cleaned out after the laptop
shut down on its own due to poor airflow. Now it only work for 2-3 minutes then
shuts down but can be restarted immediately.

Hi Sha,
May be the CPU got injured when the fan was clogged
Regards Humphrey
Good day Sir,
I think that I found the culprit, it is a capacitor close to
the CPU, at first I thought it was a polymer capacitor, so didn't suspected it
but after closer observation I realize that's just a normal wet electrolytic
without a sleeve. I know this because can see the K vents at the top of It.
After powering on, that capacitor got very hot, it's a
"220uf 25v capacitor"

Good lead... Let me know how it turns out.
Regards Humphrey
