21 Inch JCV CRT television vertical closed now repaired

A customer brought in a JCV CRT television for repair, kindly note the model is JCV and not JVC and therefore the television can be classified into the cheap China made television which comes with all manner of names.

That is why as a customer you should be careful when buying electronics equipment because many come with names very close to the branded machines (buyers beware).

Now to the topic of the day, usually whenever I get any equipment in my shop I like doing the initial tests in the presence of the client just in case the TV was from another technician and got it from another technician and the customer only remember the first symptoms which have now changed completed.

After applying the power this is what I saw...

Looking at the screen you can see the screen is closed vertically as in the vertical size of the screen is not covered fully.
This means there is something wrong with the vertical circuit and therefore after opening the set I should concentrate on the vertical circuit.

One of the most important ingredients of any electronics circuit is the power supply to any circuit and therefore the main suspect is capacitors since capacitors are used to filter supply to all circuits and if any of them develop a problem then that line will have problems.

So the first thing I did was to scan the main filter capacitors for the vertical circuit as you can above and did not get any suspect.

Next was to pull my ESR meter and tested all the capacitors on the vertical circuit and I was able to pick three capacitors whose ESR was too high for any electronics device on earth.

I pulled them out and made a replacement from my readily available capacitor kit which I always have to avoid running to the shop every time I encounter a faulty capacitor.

I replaced the three capacitors and having not found any other components needing my attention I decided to check the impact of those three capacitors and after applying the power the television was again back to normal with the screen covering the whole screen vertically and horizontally.

Thank you friends

See you in the next class
